Somewhere over the ocean [Monday Me]

Monday, January 24th, 2011

In efforts to keep myself blogging more, I thought it would be fun to do something more scheduled. I am trying out something called “Monday Me.” This title, like my attention span, may change. My goal here is two-fold: (1) to blog more and start my week writing (2) to make this goal achievable by blogging about a topic I can easily write about… my life.

So here I am sharing bits and pieces of me. This also allows me to archive some memories that meant enough to snap a photo.

Back in 2004-2005 I took a journey across the ocean to this place… I had little to no idea what was in store for me.

I lived here…

… next door to these two munchkins who would giggle at me when I’d leave to go running and say they wanted to go with me. They’d proceed to run to the end of the block and then stop and watch me go on my way. I get the feeling that was as far as they were allowed to go.

I had frequent visitors from this guy during the rainy season. This is where my aversion to slugs was born...

… as well as my love for karaoke and shirokuma kakigori.

I taught English over here…

and drank tea, studied Japanese, and kept myself busy for the rest of the day here..

I was lucky enough to spend a lot of time at the beach at see a rocket launch,

watch a mama sea turtle lay eggs, go fishing with a whole village, and learn how to make tori dango nabeyaki udon

Some day I hope to return to Tanegashima. I left a piece of my heart there snorkeling at Urata beach.
