Melissa and J.P. [Malibu Wedding]

Monday, September 12th, 2011

Love, laughter, and a beautiful Malibu Wedding. I love when a groom is involved enough to make all the  center pieces out of beautiful succulents, the bride is as gorgeous as she is kind and together they have a baby boy who is absolutely scrumptious! I’ve known Melissa for  years and to be able to photograph her wedding and be a part of this special day with her and her family was, simply put, special. Villa Mara Malibu is a perfect place for an intimate wedding.

I had a great time photographing this wedding and a big thanks the ever fabulous Megan Plenge for coming to assist!

Marissa & Frank [DIY Wedding: Mount Shasta]

Friday, August 5th, 2011

Marissa and Frank’s wedding was amazing and inspirational. I read so much these days about “Do It Yourself” weddings/crafts/everything and this was truly a DIY event. Although I suppose more accurate wording would be “Do It ALL Together” beacause really, it was an event with an outpour of help, hard work, and love from friends and family as well.

From what I gathered, here were the details:

Wedding Signs: Bride made, Groom put up – Chalk signage written up by little brother’s girlfriend
Venue: Parents of the Bride’s Backyard
Decor:  Mother of the Bride planted Tulips, Irises, and even flowers in the shape of a heart!
Florist: Bride’s Sister-in-law
Makeup: Bride’s little brother’s girlfriend
Food: Mother the Bride and family friends
5 Layer Wedding Cake: Bride Baked, Groom piped the icing
Wedding Favors: Home-made Jam (of course, they made it themselves!)
Ring Bearer Pillow: Bride hand-sewed at like age 6? Much to her mother’s dismay she had gotten into her mother’s sewing stuff and used an elaborate lace that her great-grandmother had hand stitched!
Officiant: Bride’s Brother
Beverages: Beer brewed by the father of the bride and family friend!

Megan & Harrison [Santa Barbara Engagement Session]

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

I met Megan 11 years ago as bleary-eyed incoming freshman at our UCSB Summer Orientation. We didn’t actually hang out a lot once we got to Santa Barbara but but she was always a familiar face on campus. We must have had similar but different schedules because I remember seeing her a lot coming and going but we always seemed to be passing each other going the opposite way! Thanks to Facebook we’ve kept in touch post-graduation. She’s always been so supportive of my photography endeavors and blog and I was so touched when she said that if she ever got married she’d want me to take her photos!

Needless to say, I was ecstatic when she told me Harrison proposed, jealous when I heard he swept her away to SB for the weekend for an uber romantic proposal and giddy when it worked out for us to meet in SB for the engagement session! I love that Megan calls Santa Barbara her “happy place” cause it’s mine too! We started the morning out at the beach and worked our way north through the SB courthouse, and then onto campus. Santa Barbara pulls on my heart strings so getting to photograph a couple like Megan and Harrison made it even more of a beautiful place.

Megan & Harrision,

Thank you for the fun and laughter in Santa Barbara. I am so glad that we stayed connected, Megan,  and that you found someone who makes you laugh like Harrison does! You two are so great together and if I can even capture a fraction of that with my camera then I’ll be a happy camper. I can’t wait to capture another day of love and laughter with you two!

Love,
Ayumi
